Dr. Patti SheltonDr. Patti Shelton

I'm deeply immersed in the study of the human body. My background is in Neuroscience and Medicine. I studied for many years at the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor's in Neurobiology and then a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

I have found that the study of the human body can be a gateway into meditation and deeper contemplation. We're wonderfully complex creatures, full of mysteries. To appreciate this fully is to experience the same sense of wonder that a sunset or an ocean can evoke. I will offer you my knowledge, in the spirit of wonder. You contain universes within yourself; would you like to dive in?

I believe that our embodiment is a gift. I did my first yoga teacher training with former Buddhist monk Seongyoon Lee of Yoon's Yoga Bliss, and then became certified to teach yoga with Ali Valdez of Sattva Yoga. I've also become certified to teach yoga to kids with Liz Doyle of Little Friends Yoga, and to pregnant women and new mothers with Anne Phyfe Palmer of 8 Limbs Yoga. I've spent several years studying meditation (including techniques for teaching meditation classes, small groups, and private meditation coaching sessions) with Dr. Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine, both celebrated authors and meditation guides, and have been certified for this as well. Through all of these practices, I unite body, mind, and spirit into the unified flow of life.

I love connecting with people. My relationships continually teach me more about curiosity and wonder, and encourage me to dive in to that web of connection that unites us all.

I celebrate life! You too? Let's explore together.

Linda WoytowichLinda Woytowich

Linda will share two fabulous talks about developing authentic creative sequencing with yoga postures and creative exercises throughout our training! She is has been a regular participant in Joonbug Yoga's weekly classes and an instructor at our yoga retreats at Alderbrook Resort and Spa.

Linda was born in Tacoma, the City of Destiny, raised in Lacey as a good girl Catholic, eldest of 5 siblings - engaged with art at an early age. Once out of the nest, became a hippie artist and massage therapist and in the late 70’s married John.

circa 1985

After giving birth to three amazing souls, I started taking art classes at night. One of the classes, inspired by Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards touted:

“If you can write your name, you can draw”

… Let’s try this.

That seed thought spawned neighborhood summer drawing classes in our backyard. My students - my three children plus seven neighbor kids entered their best work in Thurston County Fair - everyone won a cash prize and a ribbon.(so many categories and age groups, you couldn’t lose)

That fall I was teaching drawing through Community Enrichment program. Next came watercolor painting, cartooning and mask making as an Artist in Residence in Olympia School District, Olympia and Lacey Parks and Recreation Programs, Timberland Library Guest Artist program and Evergreen State College. Students of all ages: pre-schoolers, children, teens and adults throughout the 1990’s.  I received comments like, “I went to art school and was always insecure about drawing, you made it safe. I now draw confidently.”

From the middle 90’s I have been pursuing a 20+ year career as a graphic designer, putting teaching art on the back burner.

Doing art with my grandchildren has brought it back. Currently I am teaching a watercolor class in my granddaughter’s third grade classroom.

Drawing develops focus and attention. Color, line, shape being without words are able to access subconscious parts of our beings. The act of drawing makes new pathways in our brains, physically - really! Creative breakthroughs coming through your drawings can be personal messages for you on your journey. Also, provide feedback on how accurate your eye hand coordination is when rendering what you behold. All it takes is an open mind, time and your persevering attention.'
